Downloading TV

The internet has become my VCR.

Lets go back to the time of VCR’s. Back in the day movie studios tried to stop the sale of VCR’s becuase of copyright issues. VCR’s and VHS tapes went on the make the companies rich because of video sales and rentals. This has nothing to do with my point…

Lets go back to the time when I lived in Queens and had a DVR. It wasn’t a TIVO but it was bundled with my cable box. It opened a whole new world of TV to me. All of Adult Swim was at my fingertips at any hour of the day. Tell it what you wanted and it recorded every show at any time during the day. Never miss an episode. Pause live video, record one channel and watch another. Amazing stuff. Then I moved back to Brooklyn.

Cablevision didn’t offer a DVR and Mr Cheapo wasn’t going out to buy a $300 TIVO. I needed my TV fix. Who’s going to say up till 1am on a Sunday to catch an 11 minute cartoon. Not this guy. I hit the Torrents hard. I had no idea when any show aired, but you could only assume it was the night before it was available for download. A whole season of 24 wont even fill up my mp3 player.

I swear there was a point to this post.
