A few notes here.
The bar we went to after McSorley’s was The Village Pour House. They had a decent beer selection, but after McSorley’s, Bud was the only thing I could stomach. The trip to 47th street was to Connolly’s. The place was fairly huge, long bar with tables in the back. There is a statue of Lenin on the roof of a building on Ave. A and Houston St.
Pictures taken with the regular camera can be found here.

On Tuesday Gary and I went down to Bierkraft for “Octoberfest in October”. Six Octoberfest beers paired with “drunken” cheeses. More about that in a minute. Bierkraft is located in Park Slope. Its a part of Brooklyn with more French restaurants than pizza places. Everything is a little uppity for my taste but still good, the store was no exception. A cooler lined wall overflowing with beers of the world. Bottles, and cans, are sorted by country. Basically if they don’t have it you cant get it in the states. A real OMG kind of beer store.

Back to the tasting. It starts at 7:00 and at 6:30 they give out tickets on a first come first serve basis. We got our tickets early and hung out in the rain till almost seven. The tasting takes place out back and you have to walk through the back door of the store. Outside is a tented seating area complete with turtle tank spotlight. Our hosts were Robert “I wash my lederhosen in my beer stein” Reeves & Ben “That’s just messed up, dude” Granger. Both the guys were very knowledgeable about the beer and cheese served. A little story about the beer and cheese were given with each pairing. The Ayinger Oktoberfest was my favorite. This went with the last cheese Epoisse, which smelled like barn yard. Beware of any cheese served on a spoon people.

Overall it was a fun trip. Got to try some new stuff and walked out of there with $30 in beers. The Dogfish Head 120 Minute IPA better be worth every cent of its 96 RB rating. Probably wont make the trek again for a while though. Its a good time but you don’t get enough free booze and food the the effort. If I lived around the corner it would be another story.
